iED 2012 Boston Summit

The seventh annual Immersive Education Initiative Summit 2012 is set to take place on June 14th-16th at Boston College. The summit is geared towards educators, researchers, and administrators, with this year's focus being primarily directed towards learning games and full, augmented and mixed reality. The summit will also cover a variety of other topics, from virtual worlds to robotics, to discuss a learning environment that has thousands of subscribers worldwide.

These were the three Immersive Education videos that I found the most interesting, although I do have to be completely honest and say I took the South Park video more for its title than the video itself.

This is a screen shot of the class around the a Rocket in Rocket World EMMS. Using Gimp, I zoomed in and outlined my avatar with blue paint using the paintbrush tool. I then used the text tool to put my name over the image.

Due to my password not working, I was forced to take these screenshots using a guest account on Rocket World EMMS presented through Immerging Education. This was an exercise from the Immersive Education course that I am taking at Boston College. The course is called Discovering Computer Graphics. This is a picture that had originally been taken with redness in the child's eyes. Using Gimp, I used the dropper tool to get the correct color from the outside of the child's eyes and then used the paintbrush tool to fix the redness. The picture was originally saved in a JPEG format, and using Gimp I have also saved it in a GIF and PNG format. The differences between the three photos are not extreme by any means, but there are subtle differences in the texture and dimensional qualities between the photos. The GIF image for example (second from the top) is much grainier and two-dimensional looking than is the PNG image (third from the top.)
